Lionel sang this super-hit of a song with the indomitable Diana Ross in 1981 and what a duet that was! But this version is as good if not better with the gorgeous Shania Twain and her passionate delivery.
2. Willie Nelson and Dave Matthews feat. Tim Reynolds: “Gravedigger”
“Gravedigger” is originally a Dave Matthews song from his 2003 album “Some Devil” (the titular song is just beautiful!) but also appears on Willie Nelson’s “Moment of Forever” in 2008 after this most epic of country pop duets.
3. Dolly Parton and Carrie Underwood: “I Will Always Love You”
Dolly Parton can have her own duet list without missing a beat but we had to include these other people as well. Now we know this song because every time we hear Whitney Houston’s version, it makes us cry. Don’t pretend like it doesn’t! Anyway, Dolly recorded it even before Whitney and this most beautiful of country pop duets with Carrie Underwood is extra special. This little compilation of duets is worth a listen and we highly recommend it.
4. Chris Stapleton and Justin Timberlake: “Tennessee Whiskey”
Justin Timberlake is known for… well… everything? He sings, he dances, he acts, the man is just too much and we love his songs. Chris Stapleton is a stample in modern country music. Put them together and you get…
5. Taylor Swift and Luke Bryan: “I Don’t Want This Night to End”
Taylor Swift actually had her beginning as a country songstress but we know her as the biggest pop star in the world. She is prolific too, so many albums so many songs, so much talent. Luke Bryan’s single “I Don’t Want This Night to End” really suits her and you can see their voices complement each other well. This duet will leave you breathless as well.
6. Sheryl Crow and Eric Clapton: “Tulsa Time”
Two greats! If it makes you happy, it can’t be that bad, all I want to do is listen to this song and soak up the sun. So many great songs and now she’s accompanied by one of the best axemen of all time. The results are snaps, crackles and many, many pops! IT’S TULSA TIME!
7. Darius Rucker and Adele: “Need You Now”
Darius Rucker will forever remain etched in pop memory for one of the best albums of the nineties with the Blowfish and the band His voice in “Let Her Cry” rivals any break up song by Adele. Their country pop duet of Lady A’s “Need You Now” then has to be otherworldly.
8. Jennifer Nettles and Bon Jovi: “Who Says You Can’t Go Home”
Who would ever say that?! Of course you can go home. We all know and love this song. It came out in 2006… like it was yesterday. Bon Jovi needed Jeniffer’s voice to make it perfect so let’s listen to this perfection of a country pop duet!
9. Alison Krauss and Robert Plant: “Please Read The Letter”
Led Zeppelin in the house, and this house is gorgeous with Alison Krauss in it, isn’t it? Robert Plant loves mixing genres, Led Zeppelin III is basically a country album but admittedly infused with some of the best blues rock of all time, but still. His very prolific post-Zeppelin career has taken him all around the world. Alison Krauss’s voice pairs well with the legend and “Please Read The Letter” is something special.
10. Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash: “Jackson”
Is there a better duet than one sang with your life partner? Is there anything more beautiful? Well, maybe the wonderful little baby she introduces at the beginning. They got married in a fever and they sound great. Let’s go to Jackson with them. Johnny sang a duet with John Denver as well and it’s amazing.
