The news companies are famous for using photos of people to make them look good or bad depending on what they need. If some man has been convicted for murder, they won’t show a smiling photograph of the guy, but some photo where he looks menacing and evil. It’s called manipulating public perception and it has been around as long as humanity. One man – six perspectives is similar, but done on purpose to see the results. A bit of a manipulated perception yields some interesting results.

Six photographers with different information take photos of one subject with surprising results

We started doing it ourselves the moment social media became a thing because we want people to see us a certain way. I started playing a guitar, so I post pictures of me looking like a pop star in my room. You are looking for a job so you make sure to hide photos of your party nights and post some new photos of you looking mighty professional. You get the gist.

One Man – Six Perspectives is quite the social experiment

But what happens when we only know ONE fact about somebody and our task is to take their picture? Well what you get is on the video down there, it is quite a fascinating social experiment, actually. This is a part of a Cannon Ad that really made us think about perception. One guy is the subject of six photographers. But get this, before they came to do their job, each of them got different information. So every photographer thinks that the guy is something else. All of them have a different perspective, none of which are real. One person, six photographers with six different perspectives. They would have a different style anyway, but this only amplifies their style and opinion.

The man’s six identities are prisoner, alcoholic, psychic, millionaire, fisherman and just a guy who saved somebody’s life. In truth, he is none of those things. These backstories completely change the way the photographers see the subject and by extension the way they shoot him. The results are amazing and they teach us a lot about perspective and judging people.
