A baker’s dream

The world is full of wonders. We just need to open our eyes and see. Whenever I open my Google News page, all I see is murders and people dying from the pandemic. I’ve tried to fill it up with positive news and stories, but it’s impossible. If you want to find some wonderful stories, you have to search. And every once in a while, you will come across something like this. Something that will make you think that life is definitely worth living because it is a miracle. A simple Dutch baker who had a dream of becoming an opera singer. But life is too difficult sometimes and there’s no time to chase dreams. Luckily, the ones who love us might give it that final push to make it come true…

The baker’s dream comes true

Martin Hurkens became a baker and did that job with love and joy for 35 years. Every little piece of dough would be formed into a pastry accompanied by his beautiful voice. He sang and kneaded the dough for 35 years delighting everybody with his wondrous talent. During those 35 years he started a family and lived a normal life. It just so happened that the youngest member of his family knew something was missing. His daughter knew that Martin’s life was very close to being perfect. In 2010 his daughter signed him up for the ‘Holland’s Got Talent’ show. He was reluctant, really didn’t want to do it. But once he gathered the courage, you can guess what happened next. He won!

This video is one of his street performances where he sang “You Raise Me Up”. It gathered so many views and became so popular but he never knew.
