Andrea Bocelli and Hallelujah
Leonard Cohen and his Hallelujah have been mesmerizing the world for almost forty years now. The original is absolutely beautiful and all the subsequent covers have added something more to the beauty of the song. I think we can all agree that Jeff Buckley’s version has garnered the most attention because Buckley’s voice is so haunting and otherworldly. It’s definitely my personal favorite and I love his whole album. I also like Pentatonix’s rendition because their harmonies really bring something new to the song. There are more than three hundred covers of Hallelujah so what’s your favorite?
We all know Andrea Bocelli, his beautiful voice and amazing music. If there is somebody who can cover this song, then it’s definitely this guy. His soulful style of music will bring a new dimension to any song, especially one like this. Back in 2020 he released an album titled Believe about a month before this spectacular performance with his daughter. His cover of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah is track number three on the album and the whole LP is worth a listen. There’s Amazing Grace and You’ll Never Walk Alone in there too (a certain English soccer club’s fans will know that one).
Andrea and Virginia Bocelli’s Hallelujah Performance
We’ve seen several famous musicians and singers share the talent of their family members over the years. Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters and his daughter come to mind, Pink and her daughter, Mariah Carrey and many others (I feel inspired to post something about these wonderful performances right now). Beyonce recorded a song with her daughter that actually got the Blue Ivy a Grammy award at the tender age of nine. Andrea Bocelli is no different, he has a talented daughter and he decided to share this with us. The little girl has a beautiful voice at only 8 years old and she seems confident enough to share the stage with daddy.
Andrea Bocelli had a concert in December 2020 at the Teatro Regio di Parma in Italy in order to promote his album Believe. The concert is titled Believe in Christmas and we love it. He invites his young daughter to bring him a guitar to the stage so they can sing a song together. Virginia brings a nice classical guitar and after a brief touching conversation, they start their performance.
They sit down on the candle-lit stage and they’re off. It sounds and looks beautiful but unfortunately, this concert was only available to people who purchased tickets. Luckily though, Andrea Bocelli’s YouTube channel posted the performances afterwards. The concert was directed by Franco Dragone and this is a guy who’s done some ground-breaking stuff with Cirque du Soleil.
